There are mansions, estates, and compounds—and then there’s this megaranch in Brenham, TX, anchored by a nearly 50,000-square-foot home.

“You do need people, but some of the home’s infrastructure can make it easier to maintain,” says Diane Kiecke of Compass/Kiecke Becker Real Estate Group, who is co-listing the property with Jenny Becker, for $15,750,000.
A maid currently comes weekly, but a new owner is likely to require permanent on-site assistance. With that in mind, a recently remodeled foreman’s house comes with four bedrooms and 3.5-bathrooms, as well as a four-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin for any other hired help.
Kiecke tells us that she’s never seen a property on the scale of the 228-acre Diamond L Ranch.

Only half-joking, Becker says the ranch could have a future as a presidential retreat.
“Due to sturdy materials used in its construction, it could survive an earthquake,” she says, likening it to Camp David.
In case a buyer is in search of the ultimate in security, she adds, “It’s just so solid. The president could go stay there and not feel like he needed any more security. The builder set it up for seamless maintenance.”
That includes storm shutters and a 600 KW generator to power 90 percent of the house.
Revenue for the next owner could come from the commercial feedstore and/or from manufacturing on the property—or any other number of entrepreneurial opportunities.
“Simultaneously, you could run at least three commercial businesses,” says Kiecke, pointing to the potential for a recording studio, cattle husbandry, a wedding venue, and a bed-and-breakfast.
Wine grapes and 270 pecan trees have also been planted on the property, and provide two additional commercial opportunities. The equestrian facility, another perk, was designed to support breeding, performance, and recreational riding. There’s even an office for a veterinarian.
The next owner, says Kiecke, could be a “retired executive who still wants to work and have a house to entertain in.”
Brenham is a small town with only 17,123 residents, but it’s equidistant from Austin (90 minutes away) and Houston (an hour). College Station and Texas A&M University are just a 30-minute trip.
Antiques aficionados and flea-market fans will know nearby Round Top, pop. 90.
“Round Top is a really popular town, with antiques festivals,” says Kiecke.
Miranda Lambert made it popular, she says, through the annual Junk-o-Rama Prom.
And if you’re into buying antiques, you’ll never have to worry about having a place to store them at the Diamond L Ranch.
